    Setup
  • Is the Quantel Cellular Marine Repeater easy to set-up?
Yes its as simple as connecting the antenna and power supply.

  • Cellular Network
  • Can I connect an external antenna?
Yes the QCMR has an external antenna port (SMA Female)

  • Can I use my existing marine antenna?
If you have an existing Cellular antenna on your boat it can be used with the QCMR. You cannot use existing antennas used for VHF/UHF radio communications or television equipment. We recommend that you use a good marine antenna with low loss cable.

  • What range can I expect to get with the QCMR?
30-140km or 15-80 miles from a cell tower. Range is dependant on the network, power of the cell tower and technology used. Not all networks carry the same range, GSM networks are limited to 35km from the cell tower.

  • What frequencies and technologies does the QCMR support?
      850/900/1800/1900/2100 MHz

  • Will the QCMR work in other countries?
Yes the QCMR will work in nearly every country around the world

  • Will the QCMR work on the CDMA network?
Yes the QCMR will work on the CDMA/GSM/UMTS/3G networks. Our mobiles are with 2 different cellular providers. If the providers are both on the same frequency band then one system will work. However if one provider uses a different band to another then you may require two independent systems.

  • If a Cellular network is not available, will the QCMR still operate?
No, if a network is not available the QCMR will not be able to repeat any signal. As the vessel gets closer into the shore the QCMR will start to repeat the signal.

  • How do I know what network my provider is on?

  • Which system is most suited for my vessel?
The best system depends on the size of your vessel, what network you are using. Generally vessels under 20m use the QCMR-S, while vessels 20-50m use the QCMR-M and larger vessels 50m plus will use the QCMR-L.

  • Support
  • What type of warranty does the QCMR come with?
The QCMR comes with a 12 month warranty. Extended warranties are also available.

  • Where can I get product support?
Quantel offers telephone and email support for the life time of the QCMR. Please see our contact page.

  • Technical
  • How does the QCMR differ from a normal mobile/cell phone?
The QCMR is more like a base station that repeats the cellular signal and amplifies it to give it an extra boost.

  • What are the power requirements of the QCMR?
The QCMR can be powered by the supplied mains power adapter or from an alternative power source. Power input is 10-28V DC.

  • Where can I find out further technical information?
See our technical section for downloads.

  • How are the telephone calls and internet charged?
You will be charged the standard cellular rates that your cellular provider has set. There are no extra charges for the system.

  • What service provider do I connect through?
      Any CDMA/WCDMA/GSM/UMTS/3G service provider.

  • Can I talk on the phone and surf the internet at the same time?
This is dependant on the cellular/mobile network provider. As a general rule 3G networks allow simultaneous voice and internet, 2G networks will usually put the internet on hold when a call is received.

  • Do I need to use a cellular/mobile phone with the QCMR?
Yes, your mobile phone or modem is how you connect to the network.

  • Internet
  • How do I configure the QCMR for Mobile Broadband at sea?
The QCMR will provide your mobile phone, iphone, ipad or USB modem with strong clear signal allowing you to connect to the nearest 3G cellular network as you would onshore.

  • What internet speeds can I expect?
Internet download speeds are dependant on the network, signal strength and data connection type.
      Data Connection Types:
      • 2G - GPRS - up to 86kbps
      • 2G - EDGE - up to 237kbps
      • 3G - 3G Data - up to 384kbps
      • 3G - HSDPA - up to 7.2mbps

  • Will I get WiFi?
The QCMR is not designed to repeat WiFi networks.
